Nothing to panic about

All over the WAC blogs there is a lot of talk about how disappointing NMSU's play was at Nevada and Utah State.
I'm disappointed too, but if you look at the record, Nevada is 14-1 at home – losing only to Utah State – and Utah State is 17-1 at home, losing only to a very good Saint Mary's club.
So all this talk about the Aggies being a lousy team is a bit overdone.

I wouldnt say they're a lousy team, but more a lazy team... they dont have any disciplin and some to only play when they want to... I have seen EVERY game the aggies have play this season and this is what I have noticed.

The Aggies are certainly not a lousy team. It's not so much that they lost the two games last week it's moreso the manner in which they lost the games that is cause for concern.

Giving up 59 points to Nevada in the second half and 47 to Utah State in the second half, games in which the Aggies were tied (Nevada) and down just four (USU). Add to that the fact that the last three opponents have had a player either have a career-high night or a season-high night in scoring and it's clear the Aggies aren't playing their best defensive basketball heading into the tournament.

Can they win the WAC this week? Absolutely. They have to be considered one of the favorites. But, the two losses last week show that the team might be leaking a little oil. Hopefully Coach Menzies and his staff can get things patched up before Thursday night. One bad night defensively against Adrian Oliver and Robert Owens could cost the Aggies dearly. Remember that San Jose did score 93 and 82 points on the Aggies this season.

My concern is that at this time last year we picked it up on the defensive end after getting spanked by Boise at home. This year it seems we have already peaked.

I couldn't agree with you more. I am tired of the people saying negative things about this team. I think the team learned alot from these two losses. The losses sort of brought them down to earth and showed that they need to work harder. Before the last two games, the Aggies were basically in control of the games they played since the Louisiana Tech game in Ruston (excluding the Fresno St. game) and really didn't have a challenge they had against Nevada and Utah St. The team was reminded of how hard it really is going to be to win that championship. The focus will be there and there is no doubt in my mind that they will be the most prepared team come Thursday. As long as we play as a team we will "Wen" the game and advance to the semis.
GO AGGIES!!!!

Menzies said in interview today that the team was feeling a bit blue after the loss against Nevada because they knew they had lost the championship... apparently they didn't respond well to the news.
But if I know the Aggies, they'll rebound strong and with more passion than ever ... we'll have to see Thursday, and hopefully Friday and Saturday.
